Search for “Green” Wine
It can be challenging to identify wines described as ‘green.’ There are many nuances between winemaking practices aiming to minimize the use of synthetic inputs. Organic, sustainable, regenerative, biodynamic, or natural practices are all similar but different. As a result, to simplify the process of finding “green” wines, here are some tips to help you identify wines that will please your palate, considering searching by region, grape variety, “critic’s choice,” and/or price point . It is not comprehensive but aims to help you discover mindful wine options.
A great place to start is the list of wines compiled by two of the most respected wine critics, Ray Isle, Executive Wine Editor of Food and Wine magazine and author of The World in a Wineglass, and Jane Anson, the Bordeaux Expert and author of Inside Bordeaux, Wine Revolution (The World’s Best Organic, Biodynamic & Natural Wines), Bordeaux Legends, and Wine Revolution. General Search Tip:
If you ever want to check whether what you care about is produced in this mindful way, the quickest shortcut is to simply search for the wine’s name on Google, Edge or the likes of, and one of those adjectives, i.e.: “Chateau du Grandvert organic”. If it is, that information will likely be publicly available and commented on, even if the winery isn’t fully certified.
